My Experience at the Antwerp Design Week: A Platform for Sustainable Design // June 25

MichouVlassaks OBM AntwerpDesignWeek 19

Introduction

From June 1 to 5 – 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Antwerp Design Week, one of Belgium’s leading design fairs. I was fortunate to showcase my unique tables in the stunning historic building located at Maarschalk Gerardstraat 2, which currently houses the law firm Toremans Termote. This remarkable location, situated directly opposite the luxurious Botanic Sanctuary hotel, adds a unique charm and sophistication to the event.

A Historic Venue

The site itself is a protected historic monument with a rich history. Originally constructed in 1882 as a bank building, it serves as a testament to Antwerp’s architectural heritage. The experience of presenting my work in such a prestigious venue was both inspiring and humbling.

A Collaborative Spirit

During the Antwerp Design Week, I had the privilege to collaborate with fellow creatives, including the exquisite jewelry by Celine Roelens and the elegant linens from Michelle van Serra. This collaboration emphasized the importance of community in the design world. Engaging with other creative minds allowed us to share insights and inspiration, fostering an environment of mutual respect and creativity.

Networking Opportunities

The organization of ADW was truly exceptional, which enabled us to build a valuable customer base. The fair attracted a diverse audience, providing a great opportunity to network with professionals in the industry and potential clients. Establishing these connections is crucial for any designer, and I felt invigorated by the conversations and collaborations that blossomed during the event.

Positive Impressions and Progress

I was delighted with the warm reception my designs received. Although I didn’t make any sales on the spot, the feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Engaging with visitors about my holistic approach to design and my commitment to sustainability was gratifying. I realized that this event marked a significant step in my journey to develop sustainable designs that resonate with people.

Reflection and Growth

Now that the excitement of the fair has settled, I am taking the time to reflect on my experiences. It’s moments like these that reinforce my passion for design and innovation. As I gear up for a well-deserved holiday, I look forward to recharging and gathering new ideas to further develop my products. This time of rest will allow me to cultivate the creativity that drives me and nurture my vision for Objects by Marie.

Looking Ahead

I am eager to see what the future holds and can’t wait to catch up with everyone soon to share my next steps and upcoming projects. The Antwerp Design Week reaffirmed my commitment to design and the value of community. It’s inspiring to witness so many talented individuals coming together to celebrate creativity.

Thank you for following my journey at Objects by Marie. Stay tuned for more updates and insights!
